In an earlier post, I reminded readers that the new IKEA downtown Toronto showroom (located just down the street from our condo) would be open for a limited time only this weekend. Based on reaction I have seen to date (refer to comments posted on this blog and here) the promo is certainly less than a huge success!
In the final analysis, IKEA spent more time putting the "showroom" together than it will be open to the public! I wonder how long of a lease they signed to use this premises? What a questionable use of their catalog launch promo budget. IKEA Canada's creative agency of record is zig. I actually like their humorous radio spots featuring the guy with the Swedish accent. I wonder if they are the culprits? If so, it is a mis-step out of sync with their usual creative standards.
Ultimately, its not like the North York and Etobicoke stores are that inaccessible to determined downtown TO resident shoppers (even for those without a car)!
